40 Minute Drive | January 2024

40 minute drive is about how close two places can be, how they basically can share a sky, and yet be so different. One neighborhood is Huntington Park, CA, USA and the other is Beverly Hills, CA, USA. On a good day, these two places are roughly 40 minutes by car ride apart, but the represent vastly different Californian income brackets.

This piece is two photos long and is the brainchild of passing through Huntington Park while heading to work near Sunset Blvd in Hollywood for work in 2023. I worked at Netflix in the office on Sunset, but lived in South LA. The abruptness of the change driving between the cities always felt disorienting.

If you only look at the skies, you could almost forget how different the world beneath the two were.
